Urban Heat Network – Royal Domain of Laeken
The Régie des Bâtiments has developed a project aimed at benefiting from the residual heat produced by the Neder-Over-Heembeek waste incinerator in order to heat the buildings of the Royal Estate of Laeken. The Royal Estate is located near the incinerator and its annual energy consumption is high enough to be connected to the local heating network. Currently, the buildings of the Royal Estate (castle and greenhouses) are heated by a conventional installation running on oil. This project will reduce CO2 emissions by 2,700 tonnes per year and thus reduce the consumption of fossil energy at the Royal Estate.
